Material Control
Job Description & Requirements
Description - Most positions in this field are at the specialist level,
with some at supervisor and material control manager level. Activities include:
- Identification of material, under a consistent, systematic basis, so items,
equipment and supplies previously purchased, and/or already available, are
not repurchased under a different identifier
- Controlling identification of the actual material items, so received and
stored items are locatable and readily available for use, and do not become
lost through missing or incorrect identification.
- Use of an effective material control information system, and associated
procedures, consistent with US government Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR)
material control rules, and with company requirements.
- Coordination with project management, and with procurement and/or subcontracting
staff to support mission objectives, and best use of available and incoming
material.
- Coordination as required with logistics and/or shipping personnel and/or
subcontractors to insure proper, timely, and effective handling of materials,
supplies and equipment.
- If the material is customer-owned, insuring that specific requirements that
may be in effect for the contract/project are followed to consistently and
correctly identify, control, and track usage of customer-owned equipment and
other items.
- If requested, preparation of purchase requisitions to replenish stocked
type supplies and equipment.
- Participation in training and in activities to improve the performance of
the malarial control function.
Education Required - BA, in business, contract administration or procurement
related field. Five or more years of experience in this field may substitute
for the degree requirements.
Required Relevant Experience - 2-4 years in material control or closely
related field.
Highly Desirable:
- Prior work experience in material control in third-world countries, or challenging
field conditions.
- Experience with material control software systems.
- Military experience, especially military supply experience.
- Prior work experience in material control under US Government contracting
rules (FAR or similar).
- Work experience in a related field, such as procurement.
