Cost Engineering
Job Description & Requirements
Description - Jobs in this category involve detailed analytical work
in support of of developing accurate and useful cost estimates, from construction
and/or other engineering information. Activities include:
- Developing material and cost takeoffs from architectural or other engineering
drawings, specifications, or related documents.
- Identification of hardware, materials, and equipment in terms so that it
can have costs associated with each.
- Develop total project and sub-project costs from these data, for estimating
and cost planning purposes.
- Work with others on project teams to support performing and completing projects
at or below targeted costs.
Education Required - BA level degrees in engineering, quantity surveying,
or similarly related field
Required Relevant Experience - 5 years or more experience in construction
project cost-related work, such as quantity surveying, cost analysis, project
management, or other similar work. Highly desirable is work under US Federal
government contract regulations, such as the FAR, DFAR.
Highly Desirable -
- Experience in working with project in third-world countries.
- Military experience
- Experience working with large, very large, or sets of closely interrelated,
large subcontracts.

- Strong negotiation skills
- Ability to manage a complex contract, under challenging circumstances.
- Ability to maintain productivity, both of own activities, and those of subcontractors,
under changing deadlines, and reprioritizations of work and completion schedules.
