BenefitsThe employment contract for these overseas jobs includes a basic group insurance package, R&R, and provision for unpaid absences that may be required, and includes:
Medical/group insurance - a basic benefit package partly paid for by the employee is provided that includes these benefits:
Rest and Recreation Leaves - R&R is time away from your work overseas, and is intended to help cope with the demanding conditions. It replaces a typical vacation policy. This policy recognizes explicitly that the working hours are arduous and challenging, and that people must have a break from this work load to function in a healthy fashion. So the Interim/R&R Leave policy works as follows:
At 120 days, 240, and 365 days intervals, you will receive a 10 day paid leave away from the country where you are working. You will be provided with an $860 airline travel credit, which you may use to purchase air travel anywhere.
After 12 months, you are entitled to a return trip to the US as your R&R leave.
You may travel anywhere you like on your own expense, and expected to rest and enjoy your leave. You may NOT take the leave in the country where you are working. Travel to the US during these leaves will be at your own expense. Many employees have their spouses join them in a country such as Greece for these leaves.
You generally MUST take the Interim Leave unless operational requirements make it impossible. If you choose not to take the Interim Leave at the appropriate time, or close to it, you may lose the option. If operational requirements make the Leave impossible, you will be paid for it at the next operational leave time milestone. It does not accumulate like Vacation time in most companies. All pay bonuses are paid while on these Leaves.
Emergency Leaves - the company's policy is similar to that of the US military. In the event of a bona fide family emergency, such as a serious illness, accident or death of an immediate family member, you will be given travel arrangements and round-trip air travel to the US for the emergency. There are specific conditions that these leaves must meet, and documentation that may be required. The usual method is to use the American Red Cross as the notification channel.
Leaves Without Pay - in the event of a family situation that you
believe you must be present for, but that does not qualify as an emergency
situation, you may request unpaid leave from your your job overseas. Travel
is at your own expense, and has a maximum of 30 days that you may be absent.
